The new library, clad with Irish limestone, was designed to address and form one side of the new civic square created in the Irish market town of Gorey by Hall Black Douglas. The double height volume of the main library interior is filled with natural light from the central roof light and glazed north facade, carefully framing the Pugin designed St Michael’s Church. The interior and furniture has been carefully designed in collaboration with the librarians to encourage multi–generational interaction with the collections and various learning zones, setting a new benchmark for future projects. The completed facility includes a reading room, IT zone, information hub, meeting rooms, offices, research zones, and exhibition area.
